In an extraordinary demonstration of their commitment to diversity, consulting giant Stratagem Consulting celebrated the groundbreaking hiring of their first Indigenous employee – an event they publicised via an astounding 27 simultaneous press releases.

Initially unclear why the single appointment required such enthusiastic public celebration, Stratagem quickly clarified that the hiring was genuinely transformative, particularly for their eligibility to secure lucrative government contracts reserved for culturally diverse companies.

Moreover, CEO Lisa Hawkins enthusiastically emphasised the depth of the firm’s diversity strategy, pointing specifically to this solitary hiring decision as undeniable evidence of meaningful inclusion.

Nevertheless, upon further investigation, it became clear that the new Indigenous staff member was quickly overwhelmed, not by work responsibilities… but by endless internal photo sessions, media interviews and multiple requests to proofread the firm’s numerous funding applications.

Consequently, Stratagem proudly reported that their extensive media outreach successfully secured significant attention, overshadowing the fact that actual support programs or cultural awareness training remained “planned for the near future”…

But ultimately, the company concluded NAIDOC Week with yet another round of press releases, boldly praising their remarkable achievement – ensuring their Indigenous employee felt properly tokenised and their government funding applications suitably enhanced.
