Microsoft has announced changes to a “reconciliation” system used by partners, triggering confusion across Australia after several executives accidentally applauded, thinking it was the company’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
In a statement, Microsoft clarified the update relates to billing and invoice reconciliation, not national reconciliation, though the press release reportedly still contained the phrase “empowering outcomes” 14 times.
Within minutes, a taskforce was formed to reconcile the reconciliation, alongside a steering committee to oversee the taskforce’s reconciliation of its own terms of reference.
A Microsoft partner said the rollout would include “enhanced security”, “streamlined workflows” and a new requirement that anyone seeking clarity must lodge a ticket, attend a webinar, then consult a 97-page PDF titled Reconciliation: A Modern Approach (Now With More Steps).
“We’re committed to a smooth transition” said a Microsoft spokesperson, adding “That’s why we’ve provided a timeline, three acronyms and a sense of mild dread.”
Sources confirmed multiple organisations have responded by launching their own Rapid Alignment Plan, featuring a Welcome to Country, a PowerPoint and a strong recommendation to “circle back” after EOFY.
