DARWIN – Defence has moved to reassure the public that procurement processes remain robust, after a matter involving Defence contracts and allegations returned to court.
Officials stressed that Defence takes integrity seriously and has several serious documents to prove it, including a flowchart titled How Integrity Happens and a checklist with the box “Integrity achieved” already ticked.
A spokesperson said the department will not comment on ongoing legal proceedings, but can confirm that “appropriate governance arrangements are in place”, including a dedicated folder named GOVERNANCE_FINAL_FINAL2.
“We have strong controls” the spokesperson said. “For example, nobody is allowed to influence anything unless they have completed the mandatory e-learning module: Influencing Things (Advanced).”
Defence also announced a refresh of procurement training, adding a new unit: Spot the Red Flag, where participants learn to identify warning signs such as: unusually fast approvals, unusually friendly emails and unusually large media releases.
Community advocates called for clearer verification and transparency. Defence responded by offering a listening tour featuring: one auditorium, six microphones and a strict rule that questions must fit on a sticky note.
“Your feedback is invaluable” an official said. “We will store it securely in our Feedback Storage Solution, which is a locked drawer in the comms office.”
