Pope Francis Celebrated for Humility; Indigenous People Wonder if Humility Extends to Returning Their Land

Church insists giving back stolen land poses tricky “theological challenges”.

So as the world honours Pope Francis for his legendary humility… Indigenous people have politely suggested the Church could extend its modesty by returning stolen lands.

Responding swiftly, Vatican representatives offered heartfelt apologies, clarifying that while humility was indeed core to their faith, giving back property acquired through “holy theft” raised profound theological dilemmas.

“It’s more complicated than it seems…” explained one bishop, visibly troubled.

“We want to do the right thing but we’re worried about accidentally following our own teachings.”

When asked to elaborate on the complexity, another Church official noted:

“Theologically speaking, if we returned land taken in God’s name… what’s next? Treaties? Reparations? It’s a slippery slope toward accountability.”

Indigenous elders kindly suggested the Vatican revisit the Bible for clarification, pointing out that “Jesus seemed pretty clear on giving back stolen stuff.

At last report, Church scholars were anxiously studying scripture, deeply concerned they might actually find an answer.
