Australia’s culinary landscape will be enriched by the inaugural Australian Native Food Festival this September, hosted by Sydney’s Carriageworks and presented by Indigiearth, a fully Aboriginal-owned and operated native food and hospitality business, the festival will feature leading Indigenous chefs and creatives who are championing Australia’s rich native ingredients.
Scheduled for the 27th and 28th of September, this first-of-its-kind festival promises visitors a deeply immersive cultural experience. It will showcase live cooking demonstrations from acclaimed chefs, including Ben Shewry, Kylie Kwong and native grains expert Kerrie Saunders.
Sharon Winsor, a Ngemba Weilwan woman and the founder of Indigiearth, highlighted the cultural significance of the festival:
“This festival is more than a showcase, it’s a celebration of Country, culture and connection through food. My connection to native foods saved my life. It provided me with a deep cultural anchor and allowed me to overcome adversities with resilience and purpose.”
Guests will have the opportunity to engage in bushfood masterclasses, browse an Indigiearth pop-up café, and visit market stalls from Indigenous-owned brands such as IndigiGrow, Jala Jala Treats, Jiwah by Clarence Slockee and Kakadu Kitchen.
The Australian Native Food Festival is free for general admission, with separate ticketed chef demonstrations. Carriageworks proudly supports this festival as part of its ongoing commitment to First Nations arts and innovation
