MELBOURNE – Australia Post has extended its partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, reaffirming a national commitment to delivering books to remote communities… and reminding the country that reading is, in fact, real.

The partnership will continue supporting book distribution and literacy initiatives, with Australia Post describing the move as “practical action” and “a great news story that doesn’t require a culture war angle”.

Insiders say the announcement was finalised after executives realised it is easier to deliver 600,000 books across the continent than it is to deliver one clear government statement about anything.

“We’re proud to help kids access stories that reflect who they are” said a spokesperson. “Also, we’d like to confirm these are actual books – not a pilot, not a framework, not a consultation pack. Paper. Pages. Words. No QR code required.”

In response, several policymakers expressed interest in participating, provided the books could be converted into a 12-month strategy with a logo suite and a launch event.

Meanwhile, community members welcomed the partnership but requested a small add-on: that adults in major cities also be issued a starter kit containing How To Read A Budget, What Is Evidence, and Stop Emailing ‘Per My Last Email’.
