A $1 million reward has been announced to help solve the 2003 murder of Boggabilla woman Theresa Binge, renewing a call for answers across Gomeroi Country and beyond. NSW Police say Homicide Squad detectives are in Moree, Goondiwindi and surrounding communities this week as part of a fresh appeal, supported by Crime Stoppers.
Ms Binge, 43, was last seen about midday on Friday 18 July 2003 at O’Shea’s Royal Hotel, Goondiwindi (Qld). Her family reported her missing to Queensland Police on Monday 21 July 2003. On Tuesday 29 July 2003, her body was found in a drainage culvert beneath the Mungindi–Goondiwindi Bridge Road (formerly Boomi Road) in NSW, around 12 kilometres south of Goondiwindi. Queensland Police handled the missing‑person inquiry; once her body was located, the matter went to Moree Police as a homicide.
An inquest began in 2007 and the coroner found homicide by person or persons unknown.
Rewards cannot undo harm but they can break silences that settle in small communities and Police emphasise that information can be shared confidentially – even small recollections from 2003 could help fill gaps in the timeline.
