The Karl Stefanovic Show has responded to criticism about platforming a narrow range of voices by proudly unveiling “different perspectives,” defined internally as any guest who owns a microphone, a blazer, and an opinion about Australia being next. Producers said the episode featuring Holly Valance, Barnaby Joyce and Dr Aseem Malhotra proved the program’s commitment to balance, because one guest sat left of the cushion, one sat right of the cushion, and one appeared through a screen with a different lighting temperature.

An Indigenous media observer said the approach was “very gammon but nicely upholstered.”

“They keep saying everyone gets a voice” she said. “But when mob ask for one, suddenly the platform is full, the lift is broken and the booking producer has gone to Noosa to find himself.”

Stefanovic insisted he gives different voices a platform. Asked why 99.9% of those voices sounded like a private-school WhatsApp group discovering a smoking ceremony for the first time, he said viewers needed to hear “all sides”… especially the side already holding the remote.
