CANBERRA — The Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism, Jillian Segal, has called for institutions to apply consistent standards.
The Aboriginal community sector has welcomed the call wholeheartedly, broadly endorses the principle of consistent application of standards across the board, and has asked whether the same energy might one day be directed toward consistent compliance with the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, the Native Title Act 1993, the Closing the Gap National Agreement, the UNDRIP, the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody recommendations, and the various unfulfilled clauses of the Mabo decision.
“Consistency is good,” said one Indigenous Affairs lawyer. “We’re a really big fan of consistency. Particularly the bit where the standard applies to everyone, every time, at the same intensity, with the same political will. That’s our favourite kind of consistency.”
She paused. “Looking forward to it.”
The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet declined to comment, citing scheduling. Scheduling has been cited continuously since 1788.
