WASHINGTON DC / YUENDUMU – After watching President Donald Trump tell reporters gas prices “could be the same or maybe a little bit higher” by midterms, an Aboriginal community store manager in the Northern Territory has reportedly offered Washington a bulk discount deal on diesel.

The price of fuel in the United States hit $4.30 a gallon (about $1.75 AUD per litre) on Thursday after the US Navy and Iran traded blockades on the Strait of Hormuz. American drivers are reportedly furious. Trump’s approval rating has slid below 40%.

In Yuendumu where unleaded has been hovering between $3.20 and $3.80 per litre for the past eighteen months the news was met with what locals described as “polite confusion.”

“Eya four dollars a gallon? Cuz that’s like a buck-fifty a litre,” said Uncle Jimmy, a Remote Servo Operations Specialist. “Tell Trump to come up here for a fortnight. He’ll be kissing the bowser when he gets back to Texas.”

Closing the Gap reporting on remote fuel pricing has not been updated since 2019 when the relevant subcommittee was disbanded after a “scoping review” recommended further scoping. The Australian Government declined to comment, citing a four-year backlog of comments yet to be issued on previous unrelated matters.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright has reportedly told Americans gas prices may not return below $3 a gallon until 2027. Trump has called Wright “totally wrong.” Wright has called Wright less wrong than Trump suggests.

Meanwhile Tangentyere Council has filed an enquiry asking why nobody mentioned a fuel crisis in the Outback all those decades.

The strait got blocked. The price got tripled. The remote community discount still doesn’t exist.
