Raymond Terrace in NSW has been confirmed as the host location for the 2026 NSW Koori Knockout, with organisers and local leaders describing the decision as both a major sporting milestone and a significant cultural gathering for First Nations communities across the state.

Newcastle Yowies have announced Kings Park Sporting Complex in Raymond Terrace on Worimi Country will host the Knockout from 2–5 October 2026. The Yowies earned hosting rights after a standout 2025 carnival in Tamworth and the 2026 event is expected to draw teams and families from across NSW for four days of rugby league and community connection.

Newcastle Yowies president Warren Schillings said the scale of the carnival is enormous. “The Koori Knockout is fast, tough and exciting. It’s played over four days. I’m expecting around 190 to 200 teams to take part” he said.

Local government leaders have also emphasised the wider social and economic impact of hosting one of the country’s largest Aboriginal sporting and cultural events. Port Stephens Council has described the Knockout as combining “elite rugby league with 4 days of culture, connection and celebration” and noted the event “attracts around 10,000 per day from across New South Wales.”

In Newcastle Weekly, Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson highlighted the broader value for the region, saying: “Staging the Koori Knockout helps position Port Stephens as a premier sporting destination, capable of hosting major events.”

The 2026 announcement sets the tone for an extended planning runway, with organisers and council expected to coordinate logistics, accommodation demand, community safety planning and support for local services and businesses. For many Aboriginal families, the Knockout is also a rare statewide reunion point – a place where kinship ties, community pride and the next generation of players and leaders are visible in the same space.

With the venue now locked in, attention will turn to how the host region prepares to welcome tens of thousands of visitors in a way that respects Country, supports community wellbeing and strengthens the cultural heart of the event.
