The Larrakia Development Corporation has announced Mr Anthony Whitfield as its new Chief Executive Officer, saying he joins the organisation at “a significant and exciting time” in its work supporting jobs and business opportunities for Larrakia people.
In a post published on LinkedIn, the corporation said it has been strengthening its commercial operations and focusing on “tangible, sustainable career opportunities for Larrakia people through labour hire, property maintenance and related services”.
The organisation said Mr Whitfield brings “over 30 years of executive leadership experience across diverse sectors in Australia and the Pacific region”, including leading cross-cultural teams and overseeing organisations “with up to 3,000 employees”.
According to a business directory profile published by the Chamber of Commerce NT, the Larrakia Development Corporation was incorporated under ASIC in February 2002 and is led by members of the Traditional Owner group of Darwin, the Larrakia people. The same profile describes the corporation’s “prime objective” as creating economic opportunities for Larrakia people through sustainable business models, and maintaining the Larrakia Development Trust.
On its website, Larrakia Nation states the Larrakia people are the traditional owners of the Darwin region, outlining Country from Cox Peninsula to Gunn Point, across to Adelaide River and south to the Manton Dam area.
A separate profile by the Northern Territory’s Land Development Corporation says Larrakia Development Corporation activities include land holdings and development, property development, heritage monitoring, ground maintenance and landscaping.
