Applications are open for the 2026 Indigenous Health Scholarship Program (IHSP), with the Federal Government saying the program will provide financial and mentoring support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying in health fields.
In a statement published on 26 November 2025, the Government said it is investing $1 million over two years to support up to 80 scholarships annually, with each scholarship offering $5,000 to help cover everyday study costs such as books and stationery.
The program is delivered in partnership with Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA), which the Government said is managing the scholarship program for the first time as a First Nations-led organisation.
Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler said: “This program is a practical investment in the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals and the communities they serve.”
IAHA says 2026 scholarship recipients can receive up to $5,000, paid in two $2,500 instalments per semester (if eligible), and that applications close midnight Sunday 15 February 2026.
The Government said IHSP has supported students for more than 23 years across disciplines including medicine, nursing, midwifery, psychology, physiotherapy, paramedicine, and biomedical science.
