Sydney’s Carriageworks will host the inaugural Australian Native Food Festival on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2025, with free general admission (registration required) and ticketed chef demonstrations across both days, which is presented by Indigiearth and Carriageworks and curated by Ngemba Weilwan culinary expert Sharon Winsor, the founder of Indigiearth.
Across the weekend, the festival will celebrate First Nations culture through food, music, art and storytelling on Gadigal Land at 245 Wilson Street, Eveleigh. Visitors can explore more than 20 First Nations market stalls and connect directly with producers whose work centres sovereignty, sustainability and Country.
The ticketed chef demonstrations (each $59 + booking fee) anchor the program. On Saturday 27 September the schedule features Ben Shewry (9:30am), Karima Hazim with Rayleen Brown (11:30am) and Kylie Kwong with Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo OAM (1:30pm). On Sunday 28 September the stage hosts Elena Duggan (10:30am), George Calombaris (12:30pm) and Bruce Pascoe with Kamilaroi knowledge holder Kerrie Saunders (2:30pm).
Market highlights include Black Duck Foods, an Aboriginal social enterprise rebuilding native grain systems; Yaala Sparkling, an Aboriginal-owned beverage brand; Native Botanical Brewery, a 100% First Nations-owned venture; and Baagi Milaygiin, a bush beauty brand whose name means “Grandmother’s Spirit” in Gamilaraay.
For Winsor, the aim is cultural as much as culinary – the festival is “about more than food – it’s about honouring culture [and] strengthening connections.
The event page describes it as “the first event of its kind in the country,” shaped around storytelling and connection to Country.
