For many people, identity is often expressed through visible rituals like Sunday church services, Indigenous ceremonies or public celebrations like NAIDOC Week.

These moments hold powerful meaning but what happens when the rituals end and ordinary life resumes?

In Christianity, attending church every Sunday can symbolise faithfulness…. yet true Christianity isn’t limited to a weekly schedule because it’s about living out the lessons (Ten Commandments) of compassion, honesty and integrity every day – especially when no one is watching…

And similarly (in my opinion) Indigenous identity goes far beyond ceremonial participation and is embedded in daily practices such as respect for others and a deep commitment to collective well-being (social, environment, etc.).

Authenticity (in both contexts) isn’t measured by occasional rituals but by continuous values-driven behaviour.

If you’re kind during a ceremony but neglectful afterwards or devout on Sunday but ruthless on Monday – what does that reveal about your true self?

Imagine the positive impact if we viewed each day as an opportunity to embody our deepest-held values (not merely at special events or rituals) but consistently in our everyday actions….

So this week, consciously integrate one key value from your culture / faith into your daily decisions and interactions and let’s shift our focus from performing identity to truly living it.
