“Congrats on 10k Burns!” says cake, iced with passive aggression and buttercream.
Self-appointed thought leader and part-time provocateur John Gleeson hit a major professional milestone this week celebrating his 10,000th snarky comment on LinkedIn with an office party and a disturbingly enthusiastic grin.
The celebration, reportedly organised by no one, included a store-bought Woolworths cake with the words “Congrats on 10k Burns!” carefully piped in blue icing. A balloon that read “Most Improved Troll” hung above John’s desk as confused colleagues gathered to find out whether the event was serious.
“It’s been a long journey of sustained passive aggression” said Gleeson, holding back tears… “From ‘Did you even read the article?’ to ‘Tell us more, keyboard economist’ I’ve really refined my craft. People say it’s toxic… but I say it’s content.”
Gleeson, whose LinkedIn banner quotes Sun Tzu and his bio lists “Authentic Leadership” maintains he’s “just asking the hard questions” and insists the 45 angry responses per post are “a sign of genuine connection.”
While HR has refused to confirm whether this qualifies for professional development, John has already scheduled a follow-up celebration for his 1,000th unsolicited “hot take” on climate change, feminism and any other topic he doesn’t fully understand…
