The Australian Government has unveiled its 2025 National Science Week grant recipients, celebrating an inspiring mix of science, innovation and cultural heritage across the country.
As a disclaimer, among the recipients is Community News Hub Aboriginal Corporation (Indigenous News)… but we aim to champion Indigenous science through storytelling.
So under our project, the Indigenous Science Storytelling Series, we aim to shine the light of over 65,000 years of Indigenous scientific knowledge and innovation through multimedia storytelling, including videos, podcasts and articles.
Featuring the voices of Indigenous Elders, scientists and environmentalists, the project will showcase traditional knowledge systems, environmental stewardship and groundbreaking inventions of Australia’s First Scientists.
Which also highlights the collaboration between Indigenous and Western science, demonstrating how these knowledge systems can effectively work together to address contemporary environmental and technological challenges.
Educational toolkits designed specifically for schools will accompany the series, making Indigenous science accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
Community News Hub Aboriginal Corporation acknowledges its role as a grant recipient and remains committed to providing comprehensive, respectful and insightful coverage of National Science Week activities and beyond.
Other funded events across Australia feature innovative themes such as space farming, dark matter exploration, eco-crime solving with environmental DNA, and sustainability through regenerative design. Many projects emphasize inclusion, diversity, and accessibility, reflecting a nationwide commitment to engage all Australians in science.
National Science Week will take place in August 2025, promising to inspire and educate communities throughout Australia, honouring both contemporary science and invaluable traditional Indigenous knowledge.
